Use Your Blog Articles For Extra Money

Republishing your blog posts as write ups on article publishing websites can mean extra cash for you and requires barely any effort. The cool thing is that you can also back link to your own website on these articles as well! So it’s a win, win situation. Let me explain how you can use your existing blog articles to make some extra cash using this method.

eHow is dead, make way for InfoBarrel.

Many of you will have heard of the eHow website. eHow was once a very popular choice for freelance writers to submit articles in the hope of making a bit of cash and many users made a fantastic passive income. But eHow has upset it’s once loyal user base and many of them are jumping ship to the upcoming InfoBarrel website. Continue reading “Use Your Blog Articles For Extra Money”

Does Leaving Your Laptop Plugged In Shorten It’s Battery Life?

If you leave your laptop plugged in all the time, even when the battery is fully charged does it shorten the life of the battery?

That is the question that came up the other day and I didn’t know the answer, I always wondered myself as I use a laptop at work that is plugged into the AC power 99% of the time. Fortunately an answer to the question was very easy to find on the internet.

The short answer is yes, leaving your laptop plugged into mains power while the battery is fully charged will reduce the batteries capacity to hold a charge.  When the battery is running consistently at full charge it causes the battery to chemically kill it’s self. Have you even used your iPhone to snap a picture of your children playing in the park? Perhaps you’ve taken photos of various things around your own home to share with your friends on Facebook, Flickr or MySpace. Unless you have disabled ‘Location Services’ on your iPhone’s camera you are exposing yourself, your children and your family to a largely unnoticed danger. The Best Pure CSS Navigation Menu

First up I must apologise for my lack of blog activity over the past month or so but I have been very busy at work and then holidays over the new year and more recently working on a website, enough excuses, here is one for you web-designers out there.

For the past few months I have been building a website for my local flying club and after about three complete overhauls until I was happy with the layout I have come up with this. The cool part about it is the navigation which works in all browsers consistently and is very clean and easy to implement. Normally it would take me ages and cost me a lot of my sanity to write something like that (I am very impatient with coding). Continue reading “The Best Pure CSS Navigation Menu”

How to enable Telnet on Windows 7 & Vista

Today I tried to Telnet into a Cisco switch at work today not remembering that Windows 7 doesn’t have Telnet enabled by default, neither does Vista for that matter. I guess in an attempt to make Windows a little more secure as Telnet by it’s self is not a very secure form of communicating.

Regardless of security there are times when Telnet is going to come in handy and there is a very quick and easy way to re-enable it on Windows Vista and Windows 7. Both should use the same method. Continue reading “How to enable Telnet on Windows 7 & Vista”

World Class Web Hosting – $2 a month

A week or so a go I wrote about a free web hosting service offered by Xtreemhost, while this service is still great it did have some limitations, most notably the 4mb file size limit and the decreased performance as compared to a paid account. If you are after hosting for a small website I would not go past Xtreemhost but if you are after something a little more robust I seriously suggest you check out HostingCS. Solid State Drive (SSD) Awesomeness

I can’t think of anything awesome to write about, I have been very slack lately. I did however find this video (CAUTION: Nerd Alert) about Solid State Hard Drives that demonstrates how ridiculously fast they are. Well maybe the configuration in the video is probably a bit out of reach of the average persons price range but it’s awesome nonetheless. Enough smalltalk, this video speaks for it’s self. It also has a silly soundtrack if you listen carefully.

What If Dr Seuss Wrote Computer Training Manuals?

Here’s an easy game to play.
Here’s an easy thing to say:
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report!
If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
And your data is corrupted ’cause the index doesn’t hash,
Then your situation’s hopeless, and your system’s gonna crash!
You can’t say this? What a shame sir!
We’ll find you Another game sir.
If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
Says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel on another protocol,
That’s repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,
And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss
So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
‘Cause as sure as I’m a poet, the sucker’s gonna hang!
When the copy of your floppy’s getting sloppy on the disk,
And the microcode instructions cause unnecessary RISC,
Then you have to flash your memory and you’ll want to RAM your ROM.
Quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your mom!
